Civil Trial Work: Steve appears in the federal and state courts of Vermont in civil cases of all kinds. The types of cases in which Steve has worked include business litigation, personal injury claims, wrongful death, tax law, will contests, employment law including wrongful termination and sexual harassment, professional discipline and licensing issues, administrative hearings, zoning, environmental law, and constitutional law, including civil rights, civil liberties, and police misconduct.

Steve also advises businesses and individuals on how to avoid lawsuits.

Criminal Defense: Steve handles criminal cases of all kinds, whether they are relatively minor misdemeanors such as theft, bad checks, drug possession, assaults, shoplifting, vandalism, and disorderly conduct, to major felonies, such as sale of heroin, cocaine, and marijuana, as well as burglary, rape and other sex crimes, child pornography, armed robbery, and homicide.

A significant part of Steve's criminal practice is the defense of marijuana possession, distribution, and sale cases. For many years, Steve has been a member of the Legal Committee of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML).
